Having just got back from another successful weekend I felt the need to put pen to
paper.
This years Autumn Ball in my opinion was a complete success. We stayed at the Burn
Hall Hotel at Huby approximately 8 miles from York City centre. Whilst the hotel
was very nice being comfortable and providing good food it was isolated for those
who didn't have transport. There wasn't any bus service and taxi fares were very
high. I'm sure that despite this people enjoyed their stay.
We had three brilliant nights dancing at the De Grey rooms in York, Kath & Keith
Jackson set the ball rolling on the Friday night delighting us with a lovely program
and some quality "leading".
Saturday saw us being thoroughly entertained by professional pairing Steven Shaw
and Helen Blackburn who demonstrated just why they are amongst the top dancers in
the country. Their program was a joy to dance to and their personalities just added
to making it one of the best evenings dancing we have had in a long time, thanks
go to them both and let's hope we can tempt them back in the future.
Sunday night Nigel and Hilary Carter were our leaders and despite having to follow
the previous nights masterclass they thoroughly entertained us. Everyone seemed to
enjoy the dancing and antics from some of those attending! Nigel our Chairman was
his usual jovial self which made it a very nice last evening's dance.
In respect of the AGM meeting this weekend, which was held on the Saturday morning,
there was a big presence of members which was gratifying and the new Articles of
Association were readily adopted by a very large majority, this means we are legally
in a much better position now. The meeting went off very smoothly which seemed to
please those attending.
